The beta 2 glycoprotein IgM test measures the IgM subclass of the antibodies. The glycoprotein antibodies affect the process of blood clot formation. It can lead to the formation of abnormal blood clots in arteries and veins that can be carried to the lungs, heart, kidney or brain. An abnormal blood clot can cause miscarriages, thrombotic episodes, stroke, heart attack and also thrombotic episodes. The result of this test also helps in the evaluation of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). The APS is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly destroys its own cells by making antibodies against them. The test is also issued when women have recurrent miscarriages or when people display symptoms of APS. The beta 2 glycoproteins IgM antibodies are seen associated with infections like syphilis, HIV and autoimmune diseases like Lupus Erythematosus.
